An Olandsk Dwarf Rooster
**FALL 2013 UPDATE: WE ARE NO LONGER BREEDING OLANDSK DWARFS. THIS PAGE IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY***
Don't let their diminutive size fool you- Olandsk Dwarfs are personality powerhouses! These birds are confident, personable, inquisitive and entirely self-assured, making them one of the few smaller breeds that is not nervous and flighty. They are Dwarfs, meaning they do not have a large-sized counterpart, and are surprisingly hardy and adaptable to free-range environments. With docile demeanors and an openness to human interaction, they make wonderful pets and colorful additions to your yard or coop. Our young Dwarfs make unique and endearing buzzing noises at roosting time that have earned them the nickname "electric ducks."
Olandsk Dwarfs hail from the Swedish Island of Olands and are extraordinarily rare. There were thought to be only 56 in existence in 1989, and only approximately 200 today (source: Greenfire Farms). We have had tiny white eggs consistently since our birds reached maturity, and it's hard not to view each egg as a valuable opportunity to ensure the future of these deserving birds. Fertility rates have been outstanding even into the late months of 2012, with hens going broody and achieving 100% hatch rates without our interference.
Even in the Plural Form, They are Referred to as "Dwarfs."
Olandsk Dwarfs come in a wide range of mahogany, ginger and white spangled patterns, and are even known to have different types of combs. Our birds come from Greenfire Farms, and have a single comb.
